About Us

The Housing Source is the general housing program of County Corp and HomeStart, Inc.

County Corp is the private non-profit Development Corporation for Montgomery County. County Corp grew out of the need for Montgomery County to actively participate in affordable housing and economic development. In 1978, the Board of County Commissioners and their staff pursued the concept of a non-profit that could do development work prohibited to an Ohio county under the Ohio Revised Code. Incorporation approval from the Ohio Attorney General on December 17, 1979, made County Corp the first housing and economic development non-profit in any Ohio County.

In 1981, we expanded our mission to work on business development opportunities and fill financial gaps for small businesses. This resulted in the creation of County Corp Development.

County Corp also formed HomeStart, Inc., as Montgomery County’s designated Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) for all Low Income Housing Tax Credit projects (LIHTC). HomeStart receives an annual amount of HOME funding from the County that is required to go to the County’s designated CHDO.

In 2009, we rebranded County Corp to designate a difference between our affordable housing and economic development programs. This resulted in The Housing Source representing all housing programs under County Corp and HomeStart, Inc. and BizCap representing the economic development side of County Corp and County Corp Development.
